A1(M) high pressure gas main diversion

Part of the service diversion works associated with the A1(M) road works near Peterborough, it included Installation of two road crossings – one in an existing concrete sleeve and one by installation of a pipejacked concrete sleeve and pipe insertion. Works included land drainage, cathodic protection, precommissioning, grouting and final tie-ins.

To execute the diversion works to the satisfaction of National Grid and The Highways Agency, the project was carried out within the road building site. This required close liaison with the road building contractor.

Other parties affected, such as the landowners / farmers and English Heritage (protected archaeology) also needed to be accommodated, whilst the window required for final tie-ins placed additional constraints on the programme.

All the quality, health and safety and environmental requirements were met and the works were completed to the satisfaction of the client and other stakeholders.
